Acting Limpopo Police Commissioner welcomes harsh sentences handed to two rapists

The two men were convicted and sentenced for separate rape incidents which were committed in Namakgale policing area outside Phalaborwa between 2012 and 2014

LIMPOPO – The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers has commended the detectives within the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit for their hard work and dedication that led to the convictions and effective sentencing of these criminals.

In a statement released, Police spokesperson, Constable Maphure Manamela says the two men were convicted and sentenced by the Phalaborwa Regional Court, for separate rape incidents which were committed in Namakgale policing area outside Phalaborwa between 2012 and 2014.

Mashoko Livhuwani (34) was convicted on two counts of rape committed in December 2012 and October 2014, respectively. He attacked and raped a seven-year-old girl and raped a 51-year-old woman. In both incidents, the suspect was unknown and the cases were allocated to the Phalaborwa Police Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit(FCS) unit. The accused was arrested after he was positively linked to both cases on 17 January 2017. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

A 32-year-old man from a village outside Phalaborwa was also sentenced to an effective 15 years imprisonment for the rape of his 12-year-old stepdaughter during 2012. The accused had repeatedly targeted the victim at night while her mother was away until the ordeal was exposed and reported to the police.
