[UPDATE] Fuel tanker fire on the N1 caused by a tyre burst

The Limpopo Department of Transport says the N1 will remain closed until the tanker has been removed.

LIMPOPO – A fuel tanker caught fire on the N1 due to a tyre burst, reports the Limpopo Department of Transport.

Spokesperson, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says although the driver managed to control the vehicle, preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by the tyre bursting and it somehow caused the tanker to set alight.

“The driver escaped unharmed and firefighters managed to contain the fire, his statement read.

The N1 will remain closed until the tanker is removed from the scene.
