Limpopo Sport MEC assures full support to u/19 netball team

A special send off ceremony was held for the u/19 netball team at Park Inn by the Radisson on Thursday to wish them well ahead of the National Championships. Review spoke to some of the players on their dreams and what they expect from the competition.

POLOKWANE – During the ceremony MEC for the Department of Sports Arts and Culture, Thandi Moraka addressed the female players and reiterated that the department will support them every step of the way as long as they do their best. “I believe in you and I believe that Limpopo is a province of winners,” the MEC said.

The President of Netball South Africa, Cecilia Molokwane joined in and wished the u/19 netball team well. Molokwane having been a player, coach and referee herself and born in Limpopo urged the players to go and do their best. “I myself will be searching for talent to represent the country at the 2023 Netball World Championships that is soon heading to South Africa. For me it is all about talent and if you want to make the province proud then play hard and show the talent that Limpopo has to offer,” Molokwane said.

Review spoke to some of the players on their dreams and what they expect from the competition.

“I am very excited to be representing the province and believe that there is a great spirit in the group going. We will show the people out there what it means to be from Limpopo,” Taren Harrison said.

“We would not have been be able to go and represent the province if it was not for the support that we have gotten. I would like to say to the management and local government, thank you for all the support. We will make you proud,” Zené de Waal said.

“There is only so much that people can do but it takes a strong leader to help dreams come true. Cecilia Molokwane is the person who is pushing Netball in the country and also in Limpopo. This is what this tournament means for us, the dreams that will come true. We look forward to showing her, the department and our families that each player deserves their position in the team. We will make them proud,” says Ashden Venter.

“I for one am looking forward to see the talent that we are up against and to show off the talent that we have in Limpopo. We will show the other teams out there that we, who come from Limpopo are there because of the support of a province like this one. A province which had brought women such as the likes of the President of Netball SA and the MEC for sports arts and culture forward,” Mokghelo Modjadji says.

“I just want to get out there and play the best I can. I also want to learn as much as I can from the other players so I can better my own game,” Dora Maloba says.
