Mogalakwena Municipality violence: Cases against 25 suspects postponed for further investigations
This follows attacks on security guards by a group of people at the municipality on Tuesday, 18 June. The group then forced entry into the Municipal Chambers and disrupted members of the Council during a council sitting.
MOKOPANE – Two seperate court cases against 25 accused who allegedly caused chaos at the Mogalakwena Municipality on Monday, 18 June, and Tuesday, 19 June, were postponed in the Mokopane Magistrate court today for further investigations.

This follows attacks on security guards by a group of people at the municipality on Tuesday, 18 June. The group then forced entry into the Municipal Chambers and disrupted members of the Council during a council sitting.
A fight broke out and the Mayor, Andrina Matsemela was assaulted, as well as several municipality workers in the room.

The doors of the offices were also damaged and the five accused appeared in court on four charges including assaulting the mayor, damaging micellanious property as well as the building and causing bodily harm by kicking and assaulting municipality employees. The case was postponed until 26 July.
Thereafter, another 20 accused appeared in the same court. The men were arrested on Tuesday, 19 June. It is alleged they mobilized themselves and entered the premises forcefully. They then threatened the security officers and forced entry into the premises before closing all the gates. They appeared on various counts for trespassing and causing havoc at the municipality.
The case was postponed until 2 August for further investigations and the accused were released on warning and are prohibited to contact the Mayor or disrupt functions at the municipality. They are also prohibited to enter any meeting at the municipality.
