POLOKWANE – The Pietersburg Provincial Hospital’s speech therapy and audiology department hosted a communication week initiative on 4 June
to create awareness and address the needs of patients in need of speech therapy and audiology. Chief speech therapist and audiologist, Andronica Masipa spoke about the importance of communication in our daily lives.

Thimson Bopape spoke about life after getting a laryngectomy. He mentioned that before the surgery, he would communicate by writing and wished to thank the hospital for helping him, despite there not being adequate equipment to help him further.

Also speaking at the event was Hendrina Visser, who has regained her hearing. She says the one challenge she has to face is not reading lips anymore as she relied on that for a long time.
