Modimolle: Man (44) arrested after paying a R14 000 bribe to make a docket disappear

The suspect was remanded in custody until 6 June after appearing in the Modimolle Magistrate's Court earlier today

LIMPOPO – A 44-year-old man was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team for bribing a police official in Modimolle on Wednesday, 29 May.

Provincial spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke says the suspect allegedly approached a detective, who is investigating a case of business robbery against his brother and promised to pay him R14 000 to make the docket disappear.

“The matter was reported to the Hawks and the suspect was arrested during a sting operation after paying the said amount. The suspect’s arrest follows two similar incidents which occurred in Thohoyandou and Seshego in which investigators ensured that the perpetrators were also arrested following bribery attempts,” Mauleke’s statement read.

The suspect was remanded in custody until 6 June after appearing in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court earlier today and faces corruption charges.
