Thohoyandou security company supervisor sentenced to 10 years for selling jobs

The 48-year-old has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years and ordered to pay back the money to the victims

LIMPOPO – Tinyiko Dister Mathye (48), a security company supervisor at a prominent security company in the province, was convicted on 31 counts of corruption by the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court this past Friday.

In a statement released, Hawks’ spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke said the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit received information about supervisor who was selling jobs to aspiring jobseekers during May 2017.

“An undercover operation was conducted and Mathye was arrested soon after he had accepted a R300 bribe. Many victims who also paid money to Mathye in order to secure employment came forward with information after hearing of her arrest on the media,” he explained.

Mathye who was out on R1000 bail, was convicted on 31 counts of corruption and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment,wholly suspended for 5 years on condition that he is not convicted for similar offence during the suspension period.

Matimba added that Mathye was furthermore ordered to pay back the victims money amounting to R18 100 on monthly installments until 31 December 2019.
