Election irregularities: 18 cases investigated in Limpopo, says IEC’s Mateta

In a earlier press conference, IEC Provincial Coordinator, Nkaro Mateta confirmed that 18 cases are being investigated by the police.

POLOKWANE – These irregularities include special votes permitted outside scheduled times and political parties campaigning while citizens cast special votes. Another irregularity being investigated is AGANG SA being refused permission at  voting and counting stations, in one case there was one ballot paper missing and in a separate case a person voted on behalf of a deceased person. Where votes do not tally recounts were done.

This comes a day after Democratic Alliance provincial leader Jacques Smalle, during a video interview, alleged that some results had been tampered with by IEC officials.  He alleged that boxes were removed by IEC officials without being escorted by police and that additional ballot papers were used at a Thohoyandou voting station, these ballot papers were not part of the allocated papers.
