Early detection is key to survival – get screened now
Cancer is one of the biggest causes of human deaths worldwide, therefore Cansa Polokwane is hosting a weekly screening clinic at their premises in the city
POLOKWANE – Early detection makes your chances of surviving the ordeal much higher. These are the words of Enny Mashapa, community mobiliser at the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Polokwane.
Enny, who is also the organiser of the screening clinic that takes place every Thursday, urges residents to take this opportunity to get themselves tested – “Early detection is the key to survival and the services are offered at a much lower rate,” she says.

The services offered include breast examinations, cervical examinations, prostate examinations, blood pressure tests and glucose tests. Services such as counseling and support to patients and their families is also available.
“If the sister detects a problem during the test, she will immediately refer you to the doctor. If a patient does not have medical aid, I will personally take them to the hospital to ensure an appointment is set for as early as possible – otherwise, they might have to wait for months and it can be too late.
She explains that if you detect cancer early enough, the chances of survival are much better. If it is only detected at stage three or four, you might not survive it.
