Female Seshego District Court prosecutor arrested for alleged corruption and extortion, out on R5000 bail

45-year-old Seshego District Court prosecutor faces charges of corruption, extortion and defeating the ends of justice

POLOKWANE – The 45-year-old Seshego District Court prosecutor appeared appeared at the Seshego Magistrate Court on Friday and was granted bail of R5000.

This after she was arrested on Thursday after she allegedly demanded a R1 500 bribe from a complainant, who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, in order to withdraw his case.

She faces charges of or corruption, extortion and defeating the ends of justice and her case was postponed to 21 June for further investigation.

POLOKWANE – A 45-year-old Seshego District Court prosecutor was earlier today, 9 May, arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team for alleged corruption, extortion and defeating the ends of justice.

The Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke explained that the woman allegedly demanded a R1 500 bribe from the complainant, who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, in order to withdraw his case.

“The complainant reported the matter to the Hawks, who swiftly conducted an undercover operation that culminated in the arrest of the suspect in her office, soon after accepting a bribe,” a statement read.

The Hawks’ preliminary investigations reveal that the complainant’s case of driving under the influence of alcohol, was indeed withdrawn.

The woman will appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 10 May 2019.
