Evoke98 will have you turning heads, soon

POLOKWANE – Evoke98 will soon be a brand everybody will want to be seen in.

When the brilliant minds of Phomolo Modika and Thabang Magaga decided to come together and form something that would one day become their legacy, a clothing brand formed high up on their list. Both are into art and decided to put it into clothing. “It was only as time went by the name to go with artwork was formed. It has much to do with the passion that awakened our entrepreneurial spirit.

“Evoke means ‘to awaken’, so we want everyone who puts on Evoke, to take it as an armour/arsenal/mechanism. To help awaken, to help uproot each and everything that might have died or been stolen in people’s lives. It serves as a reminder for everyone’s dreams, movement, emotion, skill, gift or talent that is yet to arise,” said Modika.

The brand was established in December 2015, but only formally registered in January this year after the amount of support they received from clients who showed interest in their work. One of the biggest challenges they have encountered as directors of this small business, is the competition they have to compete against, especially with the amount of brands out there. Another challenge has been juggling growing their business and keeping focussed on school. “One of the big things we did before going into the business, was research. Young people should learn to do research about the environment and behaviour where they want to plant their business. This way they’ll be able to plan their finances, plan for sponsorships and plan how to persuade people into buying into the idea of their business,” said Magaga.

They will showcase in a few fashion shows this month and their long-term goal is to customise their own clothes.

They also plan to open a shop at one of the biggest malls in the country, Mall of Africa and hopefully do international trades in the long run.
