Bus overturns North of Louis Trichardt (Makhado), killing 12 people

Four children were among the fatalities

LIMPOPO – 12 people were killed and several injured after a bus overturned on the N1 just North of Louis Trichardt (Mahado) on Monday.

The accident reportedly happened on N1-29 near Ingwe hotel North of Louis Trichardt (Makado) on Monday late afternoon.

In statement released, ER24 Spokesperson, Ineke van Huyssteen, said the paramedics arrived at the scene to find the bus lying on its roof off the roadway. Multiple services were found on the scene and patients were transported to hospitals for further medical care.

According to a report on Traffic Policing Affairs Limpopo, 12 people were killed and 13 people were injured; two very serious, five serious and six slight. Four children were among the fatalities.

“It is reported the all passengers came from Zimbabwe, said Traffic Policing Affairs Limpopo.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not known, but police were on the scene for further investigations, Van Huyssteen concluded.
