“Red is the perfect colour to make a simple outfit look extraordinary. You can play around with shoes, a jacket or even something as simple as a scarf and handbags to complete the look,” she said. With shoes, during the day, you can just add red sneakers to black denim jeans and a black sweater. This look also works with blue jeans and a white sweater if you feel all black is too much for you. She explained that you can actually play around with solid colours: it doesn’t have to be all black, the trick is not to use other bright colours which can take the shine away from the red.

You can also add a red jacket, cardigan or sweater to an outfit but be careful of the cut and make of the jacket so it doesn’t become too much. Also pay attention to the fit, just because it’s cold doesn’t mean it has to be oversized. “The beauty of red is that is works for both day and night. Just simplify it for day wear, and spice it up for the evening. In the evening you can be bolder and even add dazzle to it,” she said. For ladies, if you’re wearing a plain or neutral-coloured outfit, spice it up by adding a pair of red shoes. Wear heels with a formal outfit and flats as a casual outfit. If you are wearing a suit, choose a pair of dark red shoes that show your personality and style.

Cold days don’t mean you have to go for boring looks. If red is not your colour, there are derivatives, like cherry, rust, crimson and scarlet. This also creates the same pop without having to be too harsh.
