Mahwelereng businessman tortured and strangled to death, 19-year-old arrested

Prior to the man's murder, the suspects found his 12-year-old son who was interrogated about the whereabouts of his father.

MOKOPANE – Police in Mokopane have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of murder and house robbery suspects following the death of a local businessman in the early hours of Thursday morning, 18 April in Masodi Village, outside Mahwelereng.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the deceased, local businessman Malesela William Kgadima (45), was sleeping in his house when he was attacked by unknown suspects.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that Kgadima was tortured and strangled to death after being found with his hands and legs tied together. Prior to the murder, the suspects found Kgadima’s 12-year-old son, who was interrogated about the whereabouts of his father,” Mojapelo explained in a statement. 

 

The police’s swift reaction resulted in the immediate apprehension of a 19-year-old suspect.

“The suspects were driving a BMW vehicle when they were cornered along the Steiloop Road, en route to Mokopane. The other suspects fled on foot and are still on the run.
