Manhunt launched for suspects after baby’s body was found dead in Levubu crèche yard

The one year and two month-old baby's lifeless body was found with multiple injuries after being taken from his father's bed

LIMPOPO – Police in Levubu have launched a manhunt for the suspect(s) involved in the brutal killing of a one year and two month-old baby boy.

In a statement, police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe explains that a missing child report was filed on 15 April after the baby went missing in the Khwekhwe village.

“The child was allegedly sleeping with his father. It was reported that the child’s father went to the toilet at about 20:00 on Sunday, 14 April and upon return, he allegedly found the child missing. The child was reportedly staying with his father after he was separated from his mother. Police responded immediately and began with initial investigations,” he said.

Following investigations, the lifeless body of the baby was then found with multiple injuries in a crèche yard not far from his father’s house.

“The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage, but ongoing investigations will tell. The suspect(s) involved in this gruesome murder are still unknown at this stage and anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) involved may contact Colonel Chabiseka Micheal Baloyi at 082 565 7345; the crime stop number 0860010111; the crime line SMS 32211 or the nearest police station,” he appealed.

Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has strongly condemned this heinous crime perpetrated against children.

“Police have already kick-started the process of hunting down the perpetrators and communities are urged to remain calm and allow the police to investigate this senseless killing,” concluded General Ledwaba.
