Limpopo Hawks clamp down on yet another vehicle testing station, arrest five officials

These arrests come a day after the Hawks arrested seven officials and closed down a private vehicle testing station in Lephalale

LIMPOPO – The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit, Road Traffic Management Corporation and Special Investigating Unit collaborative efforts to address fraud and corruption at vehicle testing stations in Limpopo has resulted in five additional arrests on Tuesday.

According to a stament issued by the Hawks Provincial spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, five officials aged between 23 and 62, were arrested at the Lephalale local vehicle testing station on Tuesday morning.

Among the arrested were three examiners and two cashiers, he added.

“The arrests comes a day after the capture of seven officials for allegedly using the identity particulars of unsuspecting victims to authorise roadworthy certificates for vehicles that were never physically subjected to mandatory tests.”

The suspects, together with the group that was arrested on Monday, are expected to make their first appearance before the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday, 10 April) on charges of fraud and corruption.
