Seven women and four men will appear before the Mokerong Magistrates Court, soon

MOKOPANE – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has strongly condemned acts of public violence which are still taking place in some parts of the province.

This follows the arrest of 11 suspects (seven women and four men) for public violence along the N11 road near the Ivanplats Mine, outside Mokopane.

“The arrests emanated from a violent protest which erupted in the area in which a Volkswagen Polo and a TLB were burned to ashes. One motor vehicle and a towing truck were thrown with stones. The driver of the burnt motor vehicle was admitted to hospital with burn wounds and the TLB driver escaped unhurt,” police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

He added that communities are warned to refrain from violent acts and rather to settle their differences in a peaceful manner.

“Those who continue to participate in irresponsible activities such as the above mentioned, will be dealt with harshly and without compromise”, concluded General Ledwaba.

The suspects will appear before the Mokerong Magistrate court, soon.
