LIMPOPO – It is alleged the suspect and his girlfriend had had an argument before the incident.
“It is alleged that the suspect went to his girlfriend’s house for a visit around midnight and on arrival, a conflict between the couple ensued. During the argument he stabbed his girlfriend and thereafter set her family house alight before he fled the scene,” Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe explained.
The victim and her mother who were in the house managed to escape the fire but the couple’s two month old baby was burned to death, Ngoepe added.
The victim had sustained serious stab wounds and was admitted to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is set to appear before the local magistrate court soon.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the domestic related incidents which are still prevalent in some areas of this Province with the most strongest terms.
“Residnets are advised to consult with their local professionals for intervention when they are having any domestic related problem rather than resorting to violence or killings,” he added.
The Police investigations are still continuing.
