POLOKWANE – Whether it is for keeping fit, staying out of class for the day or making new friends, school sport days are welcomed by all learners. The Inter-Schools Championships was recently held at Piet Hugo Primary School and Review took time out to ask the young learners what they enjoy the most about being involved in such sport days.
Learners from Piet Hugo Primary School, Ivypark Primary School, Laerskool Pietersburg-Noord Primary and Laerskool Chris Hofmeyr participated on the day.
Martin Sekgola from Ivypark: I don’t like being in class and that is why I like athletics. When in class I have to work and I don’t like working too much.
Itumeleng Khotseng from Chris Hofmeyr: I like athletics as I can be outside and it is fun.
Mosima Mojapelo from Chris Hofmeyr: I like competing in high jump as it is easy.
James Groening from Piet Hugo: I like to participate in hurdles as it strengthens my muscles.
Jolene Leach from Piet Hugo: What I like most about athletics are the new friends I make.
Rico Lindner from Piet Hugo: When I was first encouraged to compete in the different events, i was not to sure I would like it. Now I love competing against the other athletes.
Zander Botha from Piet Hugo: Athletics keep you fit and that is why I like it.
Katlego Ledwaba from Noordskool: When participating in athletics I love high jump the most as it challenges me.
Katlego Rallele from Noordskool: I like athletics as I learn things that will make me fit and strong.
Bahle Sotyato from Noordskool: I like athletics as it means I can be outside. I love all the items.
Matapa Mamabolo from Ivypark: Sometimes I will be number one and get trophies in the hall and everyone will cheer for me.
Theto Letsoalo from Ivypark: Participating in athletics keeps us from being couch potatoes. It also gets our minds in a different space and we forget about our problems.
Nyiko Mavanyisi from Ivypark: by participating in athletics I become fit and being fit means you might live longer.
Lethabo Makwala from Ivypark: I like athletics as it means I can be outside and it makes me fit.
