POLOKWANE – Residents say that not only does the uncollected refuse result in pollution, but often, stray pets tear the bags open and the remains are swept away by the wind.

“Refuse sits in our driveway for weeks without being collected, attracting flies into our homes,” said one concerned resident.
A resident from Westenburg said the municipaity collects refuse every Thursday, but for the past month they collected on Fridays without notifying residents. Matshidiso Mothapo, Communication and Marketing Manager of the Polokwane Municipality said they are aware that there was a backlog from last Wednesday and that the waste teams had to work extra hours to clear the backlog.
“The schedule remains the same. Residents should leave their refuse out, as the municipality will collect it later that day. Latest being in 48 hours in the event of a serious backlog.
“The municipality apologise for any convenience caused.”
