Three more suspects arrested with counterfeit money in Phalaborwa

Police in Limpopo say possession and dealing in counterfeit money in the province is gradually becoming a matter of concern

LIMPOPO – Three women have been arrested for using counterfeit money to buy clothing in the Phalaborwa CBD. The arrest came a day after three suspects were arrested for possession of counterfeit Euros and US Dollars in Musina.

The latest incident happened on Friday afternoon, 18 January in Phalaborwa after three female officers received a tip off from a shop owner about three female suspects who bought clothing using counterfeit money and proceeded to the next shop to commit the same act.

“Police acted promptly and rushed to the said shop. Just before the suspects could exit the second shop, owned by the same owner, the dedicated police officers were waiting for them at the door,” police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe explained.

The three suspects tried to run and hide behind the counter, but they were apprehended, searched and during the process, four counterfeit notes (4 x R200 and 1 x R100) totaling R900 were found in their possession.

“The suspects appeared before the Phalaborwa Magistrates Court today, 21 January, facing charges of possession and dealing in counterfeit money.
