Boy (12) and girl (14) die in separate drowning incidents in Levubu and Bolobedu
Police are asking communities, especially parents and guardians, to ensure child safety at all times to prevent these types of incidents from occurring.
LIMPOPO – The South African Police Service in Limpopo are once again warning communities about the alarming increase of drowning incidents taking place across the province due to recent heavy rains.

This stern warning emanates from two separate incidents of drowning which occurred over the past weekend in the Levubu Policing area, outside Thohoyandou and in the Bolobedu Policing area outside Tzaneen, where two children lost their lives.
On Saturday, 5 January 2019, 12-year-old, Itumeleng Kapa allegedly drowned while swimming with his brother and friends in a river near Mohlabaneng village in the Bolobedu Policing area.
Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says police were summoned to the scene and began with a search operation, led by the Saps Search and Rescue Team and the body of the boy was retrieved.
Meanwhile, early on Sunday morning, 6 January 2019, Munyadziwa Mulovhedzi (14) was found floating in the local river near Ha Mutsha Village in the Levubu Policing area.
“The body was retrieved from the water by the Search and Rescue Team and a post mortem will still be conducted to determine the cause of death on both deceased,” Ngoepe added.
Police investigations into both incidents continue.
Police are asking communities, especially parents and guardians, to ensure child safety at all times to prevent these types of incidents from occurring.
“Parents should constantly talk to their children and make them aware of the possible dangers while around dams and rivers, including swimming without the close supervision of lifeguards or guardians nearby,” he concluded.
