Doctor arrested for fraud and forgery sentenced by the Polokwane Magistrates Court

Dr Adenkule Ganiyu Adefila (46) was convicted for fraud and forgery by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 12 December 2018.

POLOKWANE – Adefila was arrested at Rethabile Clinic by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit on 12 July 2016 after investigations revealed that he fraudulently used the Department of Health’s letter head to purchase morphine drugs at the chemist using another doctor’s stamped prescriptions.

According to provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Matimba Maluleke, 35 bottles containing ARV tablets, a stamp belonging to another doctor and property belonging to the Department of Health were seized from his residence when arrested and were presented as evidence during his trial.

“Adefila was granted bail following his first court appearance and he has now been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with the option of R10 000 fine of which half is suspended for five years,” Maluleke concluded.
