Keep your nails and toes healthy with simple home remedies

Take care of your finger and toe nails using home remedies provided by local nail artist Leseka Molongwana.

POLOKWANE – “What some people don’t know is that applying toothpaste to your nails (even your toe nails), make the nails stronger, clean, whiter and shinier. You can use any type of tooth paste,” she said.

When using toothpaste, rub the toothpaste into your nails using a nail brush or an old toothbrush and let it sit for five to 10 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm or warm water. “This can actually be done or repeated two to three times a week,” she added.

Nail artist, Leseka Molongwana works on one of her client’s nails.

Leseka explains that there’s no need to worry about having bad nails when you’ve got most products in your home. “To keep your nails strong and to prevent them from breaking, moisturise them, if you apply nail polish, always coat your nails with a nail-coat, avoid acetone-based polish removers,” she said.

She adds that eating tomatoes is also an excellent way to give weak nails the much needed Vitamin C they need.

“For longer nails, you can soak your nails in tomato or lemon juice, add one table spoon olive oil. This can be done about three to four times a week for about 10 to 15 minutes, and you don’t have to worry about your nails breaking easily. Try out these home remedies, you’ll thank me,” she concluded.
