In a statement released by the weather service, an upper air trough over the western parts of the country will be drawing tropical moisture into the central and eastern parts of the country resulting in showers and thundershowers from this evening, 7 December, persisting throughout Saturday and Sunday.

The weather service says areas of concern for heavy rain with possible flooding on Saturday, 8 December, are the southern parts of Limpopo and parts of Gauteng.

On Sunday, 9 December, persistent rainfall will result in widespread flooding over Limpopo, Mpumalanga and other areas.

As a result of the rain, temperatures will ‘cool’ down to 27 degrees on Sunday but will remain humid on Friday and Saturday.

The weather service says they will continue to monitor any further developments relating to this weather system.
