Limpopo court hands down three life sentences to rapist (37)

his heft sentences emanated from two separate rape incident committed in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

LIMPOPO – Rape accused, 37-year-old Kgotso Dzhivhuwo was this week sentenced to three life terms by the Dzanani Regional Court outside Thohoyandou.

According to Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, this heft sentences emanated from two separate rape incident committed in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

He reported: “On 23 November 2013, Dzhivhuwo attacked a 38-year-old woman when she was walking home from work at around 19:30 the evening. “He approached the victim as if he wanted to accompany and struck her on the face using a stone. When she fell down  the accused dragged her to the nearby bushes, threatened her and raped her. He later dragged her further to anothr spot when he raped repeatedly.

Meanwhile on 14 March 2015 at about 19:20, the accused attacked and raped a 27-year-old woman from Makongodza village. The second victim was  attacked and struck with a stone while she was walking along the street with a family member and a friend.

“Dzhivuwo threw a stone at the victim and when she fell down and injured her leg he dragged into the nearby bushes, threatened her with a knife and raped her.  The two people she was with ran away but returned shortly afterward  looking for her. The accused heard voices of the people calling the victim and  fled the scene.”

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba has commended the investigating teams from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units for tackling these cases and ensuring that this rapist was arrested and subsequently sent to jail forever.

“This sentencing came handy to the society in general as we are currently in the “16 Days of Activism On No Violence Against Women and Children. We hope that this long incarceration will bring a relief to his victims and it will also serve as a deterrent to all the rapists and rapists to be out there that crime does not pay”,concluded General Ledwaba.
