Polokwane warehouse owner arrested for allegedly manufacturing counterfeit goods

Counterfeit goods to the value of R145 000 were also confiscated.

LIMPOPO – The 35-year-old man was arrested on Thursday during an intelligence driven operation following the discovery of a clandestine counterfeit goods warehouse in Polokwane.

Members from the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit, Local Criminal Record Centre, the Tactical Response Team and Spoor and Fish Brand Holders swooped on the warehouse after it transpired that  counterfeit goods  were being manufactured, said Spokesperson for the Hawks, Capt Matimba Maluleke.

During the operation various items bearing various authentic company names were seized. The value of the seized items is estimated to be around R145 000.

The owner of the warehouse has since appeared before the Polokwane Magistartes Court on a charge of possession of counterfeit goods. and was granted R1000 bail.

He is expected to reappear before the court on 2 February 2019, Maluleke concluded.
