Combating crime is at the top of the list for mall tenants and SAPS

The SAPS held a crime awareness campaign on Thursday, 1 November, as part of the Crossing Mall's renovation and official opening of various shops.

MOKOPANE – The campaign was led by The Mahwelereng Cluster Commander, Brig Mokgaetji Asnath Malahlela and the Mokopane Station Commander Colonel Leshoaneng Mantjane, the Cluster Station Commanders and external stakeholders such as the Mogalakwena local Municipality, the CPF and CSF, the Department of Health, Home Affairs, Ledet, Cosatu Youth Representatives and the Pastors Forum on Friday, 2 November. They marched from the Mokopane SAPS to the Crossing Mall with the SAPS Limpopo Provincial Jazz and Brass Band.

This march forms part of the ongoing efforts to prevent and combat crime. The masses were addressed on the community based crime prevention strategies especially crimes such as theft out of motor vehicle, robberies, general theft like shoplifting and drugs.

The SAPS urged members of the public to be vigilant and safety wise especially during this festive season and beyond.

Take note of the following safety tips:

• Stokvel groups are advised to utilise banks to distribute their money instead of distributing cash.

• Avoid hitchhiking or giving people lifts.

• Take care of children in shopping malls during your routine shoppings.

• Do not leave minor children alone inside the vehicles when going for shopping.

• Do not trust stranger’s assistance at the ATM’s.

• Double check the car doors before leaving your car at the packing lots.

• Avoid hiring unknown transport when buying stokvel groceries or any other family needs.

• Do not fall a victim of human trafficking.

• Avoid opening your window halfway or leaving sunroof unattended.

• Leaving valuable things on top of your car seats may attract smash and grab thieves.
