Con artist promises jobs at R850, warns Mogalakwena

Mogalakwena Municipality is warning residents to be aware of a con artist who offers employment opportunities at Mogalakwena Anglo Platinum Mine, by using a municipal councillor's name.

LIMPOPO – The man is said to tell job seekers to meet him at the mine, where they have to pay R850 which would seemingly secure a job.

The Divisional Head Communications, Selokela Malesela, said it has come to their attention that unsolicited scam e-mails and text messages are being sent from a person who identifies himself as Cllr Hlengani Samuel Mathebula, the Speaker for Mogalakwena Municipality.

“We are taking this matter extremely seriously, Cllr Mathebula has last Wednesday opened a case at Mahwelereng Police Station and the municipality is currently working with the appropriate law enforcement authorities to bring the fraudsters to book,” Malesela added.

Malesela explained that Mathebula himself is not a recruitment agent for Mogalakwena Anglo Platinum Mine and thus has no link or influence with the mine’s Human Resource Department.

“We take this opportunity to remind the community that the municipality has never used text messages or e-mails to prospective job seekers or request them to pay money prior the interviews.

“If you find yourself in such a situation, kindly note that it is a scam,” Malesela said.

“If you receive an e-mail, text message or phone call offering you a job opportunity from a person who identifies himself as Cllr Mathebula and representing Mogalakwena Anglo Platinum Mine, kindly visit your local law enforcement authorities and provide them with all information you may have,” Malesela concluded.

He said this was the only way in which the perpetrator could be found.
