Transport Dept planning prayer days for province’s deadliest roads
MEC for Transport, Makoma Makhurupetje said the province is still reeling following several accidents which claimed numerous lives throughout the month.
LIMPOPO – The MEC for Transport, Makoma Makhurupetje said Transport Month this year was indeed a dramatic one, with more than 50 people in the province having lost their lives on the N1 within the space of two months.
She said while they wrapped up Transport Month, the department continues to urge road users to keep obeying the road rules.

She said people should continue using public transport as this reduces the number of vehicles on the roads.
“The department believes that the fewer the vehicles that are on the roads, the smaller the opportunity for incidents,” she said.

Makhurupetje said the department would continue to take harsh steps towards ignorant drivers who fail to obey the road rules.
She said the department was planning to host prayer days for the N1, N11, R531,R17, R36 and R37 routes as these were the province’s deadliest roads.
She said the department has tried by all means to ensure that road users are safe on the roads however high speeding and being
impatient remained a serious challenge on their roads.
