Disabled Polokwane learner makes history at Limpopo Biathlon

Omphile Mashego (12), a learner at Mitchell Houses Enrichment Centre, was the first disabled learner to participate in this event

POLOKWANE – Sports fanatics know the feeling of pushing themselves to the limit.

By participating in a sporting code like biathlon, they set their standards a bit higher by participating in two sporting items, namely running and swimming.

Biathlon is a multisport discipline that involves running and swimming over various distances for different age groups.

Last Saturday, athletes from Limpopo biathlon gathered at Mitchell Houses sports grounds to take part in the event.

The highlight of the day was the fact that it was the first time ever a disabled person participated.

Omphile Mashego (12), a learner at Mitchell Houses Enrichment Centre, who was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, also participated on the day.

He swam 25 m and participated in the 400 m swim (u/8). Entry fee included a bag of cat food that was donated to the TNR project in Louis Trichardt.
