One person killed after car rear ends truck near Kranskop on the N1

One person is critical and two others sustained serious injuries

POLOKWANE – One person was killed when a speeding VW polo sedan rear ended the back of a Scania truck on the N1 near Kranskop on Saturday afternoon, 3 November.

According to the spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, the truck was stationery at the time of the accident and one person was declared dead.

“The driver is in a critical condition and two other passengers sustained serious injuries and they were taken to the Voortrekker Hospital and FH Odendal Hospital to receive medical attention,” he said.

Moremi-Taueatsoala says preliminary investigations suggest the driver was either fatigued or driving recklessly.

“We urge motorists to rest when on the road. Save your life by resting and by driving at a speed that is acceptable,” he concluded.
