Three arrested with illegal firearms and ammunition in Hoedspruit

The trio were allegedly en route to commit a crime, said the Limpopo police

LIMPOPO – Three men found in possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition were arrested ion Thursday, confirmed the police.

According to police spokesperson, Constable Maphure Manamela the members from the Provincial Stock Theft Unit reacted to a tip-off about armed suspects travelling in a VW Jetta around Hoedspruit in the Giyani policing precinct. The members immediately followed up on the information and the suspects were stopped along Kampersrus road.

The police searched the vehicle and recovered a firearm with one magazine, seven rounds of ammunition, one round of rifle ammunition, a knife and an axe.

“Further police investigations are underway to establish the origin of the said firearms and ammunition and whether they were used during commission of any crime,” Manamela added.

The trio, aged between 29 and 52, will  appear before Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

Police investigations are still continuing, Manamela concluded.
