According to the department’s public relations officer, Zaid Kalla, three strayed elephants were spotted wondering around inland areas of Mutale over the weekend.

“The Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism has since released Environmental Law Enforcement Officers into the area in search of the reported strayed elephants. None of the Provincial Wild Life Facilities have reported any missing animals and the department suspects the strayed animals to be from our neighboring country,” he said.

Kalla further warned communities not to approach the animals nor try to capture them but advised them to immediately contact Environmental Law Enforcement Officers on sighting the strayed elephants.
