Mazda CX-3 charms its way into your heart

For the first time since the Mazda CX-3's first launch in 2015, it now received a classy update on many of its features and Bosveld had the chance to take the 2.0L Dynamic beauty for a test drive.

MOKOPANE – When driving the vehicle, which has 115 kW at 6000 rpm power, it was clear why Mazda describes it as the first compact SUV that combines the stylish design of a hatchback with the versatility of an SUV. The Mazda CX-3 is the creation of ‘KODO — Soul of Motion’ design which is inspired by the instant when energy bursts into motion, balancing athletic presence, streamlined simplicity and elegant detail. It was very easy to pick up on energetic vibes from this car while driving swiftly and comfortable through traffic.

Like all Mazda cars we have tested before, this one handles very well and sticks to the road even at sharp turns. Its fuel consumption promises 6,6 L per 100km and a top speed of 202km/h.

This Mazda CX-3 leaves a sporty vibe to it and boasts new fog lamps and a more pronounced grill.

The changes and improvements on the new Mazda CX-3 range include front fog lamp bezel colour that changes to black, up-styled 18-inch alloy wheels and the Mazda grill refined to consist of fewer but more pronounced lines. LED rear combination lamps are now available for the Individual and Individual Plus models and even a new colour, Soul Red Crystal is part of the range to choose from. The interior also differs with the front centre console armrest which has fancier cup holders as well as a centre rear seat armrest with cup holders. The rear-view mirror now has an automatic dimming feature and an electric parking brake is introduced. What makes the Individual and Individual Plus models even more classy is the standard full leather upholstery. The Dynamic, that Bosveld tested only has a leather-wrapped gear shift knob and steering wheel and cloth seat upholstery, which is still very comfortable.

We were astonished by the feel, look and comfort of this revamped car. Safety is also no concern and we were even impressed by its remote central locking system and smart advanced key-less entry with a push button. To lock your car you can either push the lock button on the car remote or walk away and within five metres it will lock itself. When unlocking the car again it will detect when you are near (only if remote is in your pocket or nearby) and you only have to push a sensory button on the door handle.

The infotainment of this car includes an MZD connect system seven-inch display screen, Bluetooth hands-free system, multi-function steering wheel with audio controls and of course a CD player and USB/auxiliary cable inputs.

The exterior of the car also comes with standard rear parking sensors, power fold mirrors and front rain-sensing wipers.

The rear seats as well as front seats consists of cloth upholstery and a fancy new centre seat arm rest with cup holders.

Mazda did a great job to improve and enhance some of its features to look even classier and stylish. Overall, Bosveld is very impressed by the upgrade and we appeal to any potential buyers to give the CX-3 a fair chance. Its charm will sweep you off your feet.
