Baroka, City ready to rumble this weeknd

Polokwane City is looking to return to their winning ways when they will host Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex in Polokwane on Saturday in the Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL).

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo derby is expected to attract many soccer lovers around the province.

City’s coach, Jozef Vukusic, said his team is under pressure to rescue their PSL status after failing to win their last two matches. They lost their opening match against Black Leopards 1-0 and lost 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Baroka lost their first match 1-0 to Amazulu and won their second match against Cape Town City 2-1.

Vukusic said his team needs to claim the full three points at all costs to ensure they move up the log table. He added the players have rectified their previous mistakes and he assured fans they plan to win the match against Baroka at all cost.

“We have to be cautious going into the derby as things in a derby are different than in a normal game. It’s also a question of pride for the province, a question of determination and fighting spirit. Our derby is always different so we have to be careful if we want to collect the three points. Both teams want to win and we look forward to the match,” he said.

After beating Cape Town City, Baroka FC coach, Wedson Nyirenda, is confident his side will make a positive start to their matches.

“We want to continue with the sweet taste of victory but it’s easier said than done. We look forward to the match,” Nyirenda said.

“The preparations have gone well and even though we might not have had enough time, we are geared for the fight. We need three points more than City so it’s going to be one hell of a fight. I believe in my boys and as much as I know it’s going to be tough, I believe we are going to get a positive result and go to the play-offs,” he said.

Chippa United are set to host the Limpopo side, Black Leopards, as they play their third league match and will be banking on their home ground advantage. Leopard’s coach Joel Masutha is determined to record a win over Chippa. Leopards are currently perched on the fourth position with four points after winning one and drawing another.
