Gamer girl gears up for provincials

Simone Sin24 Otto proved during the recent Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) Limpopo Regional Championships that contrary to popular belief, women can play games just as good as men.

POLOKWANE – The championship was held at Technical High School Tom Naudé this past weekend and Simone showed up the competition and earned her regional colours. She subsequently qualified to compete in the MSSA Limpopo Provincial Championship in September where she will be able to qualify for her provincial colours.

“I always get teased for playing video games and am often called a tomboy or weird but I don’t really mind as this is what I love. I gain so much from playing games which takes a lot of concentration and the ability to make split-second decisions so I can win or move on to the next level in challenges or games,” she explained.

She added she is able to enhance her focus and concentration skills through playing mind sport and said she is able to broaden her mind and thinking capacity as gaming challenges her to think beyond the current situation. It helps her to think ahead and come up with the perfect solution to a problem after trying several times.

“As a gamer, I also learn to persevere and never give up because at the end it is either I lose or win and when I lose, it means I can try again next time, giving it my all to progress. MSSA brings us together as gamers and provides the players a place where they can showcase their sporting talent and skills on a different platform. It gives people who do not excel in traditional sporting codes to still hone their skills and talent in the sport they love and get recognition for their accomplishments.”
