[WATCH] “I’m a human being with a heart” says local sex worker

Review recently spoke to a woman who has been a sex worker for the past eight years to find out what challenges women in the industry face.

POLOKWANE – With Women’s Month fast approaching, Review decided to place the spotlight on a controversial industry.

The woman, who spoke anonymously due to the stigma attached to sex workers, is part of the Sisonke National Sex Work Movement in South Africa which advocates the legalization of sex work in order for sex workers to work under safer conditions.

She shared some of her experiences and the reasons behind why she does what she does.

How did you get involved in the sex work industry?

Tell us about your experiences as a sex worker? Have you had any scary experiences?

 

What is the relationship like between sex workers and the police and what kind of relationship would you want with them?

Tell us about your family? Are you the sole breadwinner and do you have children?

If you had the chance, would you leave the sex work industry?
