POLOKWANE – Kgothatso Ntabane, who goes by the name K-arts, is a self-taught photographer from Seshego.

Describing himself as a guy of many talents, he is currently concentrating on photography which he is passionate about. “I am a self taught photographer and I am a limitless creative who lives by his own motto “GFA” which when full reads “God, Family and Art”. The most important things in my life in the order they’re put. Art for me is anything pulchritudinous, which triggers emotion and is created by a person to describe their feelings. I see art in everything.” he explained.

He started formally taking photographs in June 2018 when he brought his first camera. Previously, he would take photos of everything that interested him with his cellphone. His love for photography was catapulted by his friend from high school, Kagiso Makgoka, who is currently studying cinematography. “He bought his first camera when we were in high school and took wonderful shots, I fell more in love with the camera pictures than those of my phone. He motivated me to get my own camera and showed me a few techniques here and there with a camera. From there, I became an addict until I bought my own camera and applied what he taught me as well as learning a few new things along the way. Now I do my “own thing,” he explained.

His favourite shots are negative space and close up portraits because they have unique detail. K- arts firmly believes in his potential to be one of the best photographers one day.

“The photographs I take are often inspired by my feelings and the music that I listen to on the day,” he added.

For a starting out photographer, he experiences financial challenges because equipment is expensive. “I can’t afford the equipment I want at the moment since I just started, so the little equipment that I have limits me from doing bigger things that need bigger and better equipment but you know what they say, use what you have to get what you want.” he added.

Some of the highlights have been compliments he gets for his shots. He gets better with every photo shoot and people love his work. He is also a presenter on an online radio station called “Reality Waves ” which caters for students and post graduates. He presents a show, “Munching Times” from Monday to Friday at 13:30 to 15:30.
