Municipal manager meets with Lepelle Northern Water over inconsistent supply to Polokwane

The municipality says water supply in the city and other affected areas has improved since yesterday, covering areas that were severely affected for a three to five day period.

POLOKWANE – According to a statement by the Polokwane Municipality, the municipal manager had a “fruitful meeting” with Lepelle Northern Water, this morning, 16 July, to resolve recurring issues that lead to inconsistent water supply to Polokwane.

“The meeting also focused on the medium to long term solutions to bring stable supply to Polokwane,” it read.

This, after several water shortages in the city last week which left most of the city without water.

“Water supply in the city and other affected areas has improved since yesterday, covering areas that were severely affected for a three to five day period. By Sunday evening, most of the areas affected were reported to be restored,” the municipality said.

Repairs to the 500mm line that was damaged were completed on Sunday afternoon, 15 July, and the line is being monitored.

“Reservoirs levels are improving steadily, however, an appeal to the public is to continue using water sparingly to assist the reservoir levels to reach stability. Water consumption should be restricted to domestic or household usage only,” the statement read.

The municipality says they appreciate the patience demonstrated by the community of Polokwane during the past five days and further apologize to all stakeholders for the inconvenience caused.
