MEC Mashamba laid to rest as people sing her praises

The funeral was attended by various dignitaries such as hosi Phylia N'wamintwa, chief Livuwani Matsila, Joel Sibiya, South African Communist Party Secretary General, Blade Nzimande, and ministers Jeff Radebe and Nomvula Mokonyane among others.

LIMPOPO – Former president Jacob Zuma described the late MEC Joyce Mashamba as a disciplined person who didn’t make a lot of noise but influenced the communities and society in a positive manner.

Zuma spoke during Mashamba’s funeral at Mudavula stadium outside Malamulele in the Collins Chabane Local Municipality on Saturday.

He said whenever Mashaba had different views than the ANC leadership, she didn’t attack them in public, she always found other ways to engage with them.

“Joyce Mashamba was a real stalwart who always found ways to engage in a disciplined way with the leadership of the ANC.

“She was a loyal and gallant comrade who always completed her assignments, even when she was in exile,” said Zuma who was a Umkhonto weSizwe Military Wing commander with both Mashamba and her husband, George, serving under him.

“She was a true reflection of the real women of the ANC Women’s League and we urge other women to emulate her.

“It is unfortunate she passed away when our country is facing serious challenges with women and child abuse as this is the time we needed her most.”

Mashamba’s husband, George, described his wife as someone who loved to serve and help others.

“My wife always put other people first. She was a loving and caring wife and her death leaves a big void in my life, and the lives of others,” he said, urging other leaders to emulate her and engage with one another instead of fighting.

Jessey Duarte, ANC Deputy Secretary General, said the ANC had lost a loyal and humble servant of the people who dedicated her life to fighting for the freedom of this country.

“She left her children and family to join the ANC in order to fight for the democracy of this country.

“We will miss her loving and caring heart.

Hamba kahle Mkhonto weSizwe (spear of the nation ),” she said

Bathabile Dlamini, ANC Women’s League President and Minister of Women and Children in the presidency, said as the Women’s League they are saddened by Mashamba’s death, especially in light of the increase in women and children abuse the country currently faces.

Mashamba’s daughter, Bongani Mashamba, described her mother as a loving and caring person who always taught her children to humble themselves and to be disciplined.
