Apothen Cricket Club to launch new possibilities

A new exciting concept for Limpopo cricket is on the cards with the opening of a new club, the Apothen Panthers, set for Saturday, 14 July.

POLOKWANE – The day will be celebrated with a special six-a-side cricket competition that will see not only the current club members participating, it will also be open for anyone wanting to join in the fun.

Chairperson of the Apothen Panthers Cricket Club, Feizel Kimmie, told Review the club brings a new concept and is a first of its kind in Limpopo.

“The club is the first multi-racial and fully integrated cricket club that will bring equal opportunity to both male and female players in Limpopo.

“Some educational institutions in the city including Mitchell House and the University of Limpopo have come on board with the initiative and will send some of their learners to the club for practice,” he said.

The club will specifically focus on promoting younger players 18 years and younger.

During the six-a-side day, anyone can take part for a nominal fee of R70 to register and be a part of the fun.

“Aside from player development we will also look at umpire and scorekeeper development which will include disabled players,” Kimmie added.

Anyone interested in finding out more about this new club or joining their initiative can contact Raeesa Kimmie at 066 233 9037 or send an e-mail to apothenpanthers@gmail.com.

The club name, Apothen, means ‘from above’ and the hope is that the club will be blessed and be a success.
