Victims of Vaalwater car crash identified

The deceased, traveling in a white Ford Figo, were on their way from Lephalae to Vaalwater when the accident occurred

LIMPOPO – The five deceased from the horrific accident along the R33 road on Saturday have been identified by their family members, said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The five people died instantly after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned about 30km outside Vaalwater.

They were identified as follows:
(1) Mmone Rafapha aged 41 years, the driver.
(2) Hannes Greef aged 48 years.
(3) Johanna Greef aged 49 years.
(4) Jouna Greef aged 16 years.
(5) Amogelang Makgae 3 years.

The police have since opened a case of culpable homicide and further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.


LIMPOPO – Five people including a young girl have died after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned along the R33 road about 30km outside Vaalwater at around 16:00 on Saturday, confirmed the police.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe reported: “It is alleged that the five deceased were on their way from Lephalale to Vaalwater when the driver of the vehicle lost control and the vehicle overturned. The occupants died instantly.

The cause of this accident is not clear at this stage but the ongoing Police investigations will tell.

The deceased are girl (3) , one woman in her forties and three men in their thirties and forties.

The deceased are not identified at this stage. The police urge anyone who can assist with the identification of the deceased to contact Captain Malesela at 082 414 2012 or may contact Dorset Police Station outside Lephalale.

The cause of this accident is not clear at this stage but the ongoing Police investigations will tell.
