Baby girl rescued from pit toilet in Moletjie with orange sack around her neck

Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba has congratulated the EMS rescue team for a job well done.

POLOKWANE – According to the spokesperson for the Department of Health, Thabiso Teffo, Limpopo Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rescued another newborn baby from a pit latrine on Sunday, 10 June.

Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, has congratulated the EMS rescue team but has also condemned the acts of throwing new born babies in pit toilets.

“There are options out there for new parents who feel like they cannot take care of their children for whatever reasons. Instead of throwing the newborns away, they can get assistance through our hospitals or social development offices.”
