Elderly pedestrians killed on the R71

The department of transport says the accident happened at around 06:30 this morning.

POLOKWANE – According to the spokesperson for the department, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, the accident occurred on the R71, Mathibaskraal Road.

“A Nissan vehicle was speeding and knocked two pedestrians over. Two people were killed,” he said.

According to police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, two pensioners, aged 60 and 76-years-old were crossing the R71 road between Polokwane and Tzaneen near Nobody village when they were knocked down by a bakkie and died instantly.

“Both the deceased were enroute to the pension pay point and the 60-year-old is still unknown. Anyone who can assist the police in the identification of this deceased may contact Captain Kanyane at 082 729 1042 or to go to the Mankweng Police Station,”

He concluded by saying that the police investigations continue.
