[IN PICTURES] Mokopane supports Tekkie Tax

Businesses and schools in Mokopane laced up their tekkies with Tekkie Tax laces to support a good cause last Friday.

MOKOPANE – The Suid-Afrikaanse Vroue Federasie (SAVF) joined forces with more than a 1 000 NGO’s all over the country to conduct a national fundraising campaign called Tekkie Tax Day that was held last Friday.

Corlet Briel, vice chairperson of Mokopane SAVF, said the first Tekkie Tax was held in October 2013 and since its inception the campaign raised an astounding R30,5 million.

“Although this is an excellent fundraising project, Mokopane branch did not do well this year.

“I am sad to say that we did not receive much support from schools and businesses, but I am still thankful to each one that did join in the fundraising.

“I held discussions with principals to see if we could use a more exciting approach next year to make the learners more interested in Tekkie Tax Day.”

Briel said she is still waiting for money to come in and unfortunately don’t have the final figures yet.
