Rocks thrown at motorists as protests continue on the R81 near Mooketsi

Police are urging motorists to use alternative routes.

POLOKWANE – Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe has warned motorists using the R81 towards Mooketsi to use alternative routes due to a tense situation in the Ga-Sekgopo area.

“Residents have barricaded the road with rubble and stones and they are also burning tyres,” he warned.

Public order police have been deployed to the area and motorists have been advised to use alternative routes as protestors are throwing stones at passers by.

“Motorists can use Munnik Avenue on to the R81 or the Magoebaskloof Road. Police will continue monitoring the area,” he concluded.
