The ‘doctor’ is in to make your sneakers squeaky clean

Using his creative thinking and willingness to put in the effort, Itumeleng Mathebula is making a name for himself as the best when it comes to cleaning sneakers or bags.

POLOKWANE – Known as ‘The Shoe Doctor’, the 28-year-old from Fauna Park realised the need for the service he provides when he himself needed clean sneakers for an event but was too strapped for time to wash them himself.

“I asked my brother to wash my sneakers for me and promised to pay him. I wasn’t too happy with the idea as it meant I had to take money out of my savings to pay him. That was when I realised there was a need for this service as many people find themselves in the same situation I did, yet they didn’t have anyone to ask for help to wash their sneakers and so Sneakers Clinic came about,” he explained.

The Sneakers Clinic is based in Fauna Park where the young entrepreneur takes in dirty sneakers, both from men and women, and then washes them for a fee.

He told Review he uses special washing techniques to ensure the shoes are not damaged during the cleaning process.

“I have special ways to wash the sneakers as well as special tools which I use during the process that not only ensure the shoes are left squeaky clean but also smelling great. Aside from washing shoes, I also repair damaged shoes.”
