Lim transport and taxi associations reach agreement following violence in Apel
The meeting was held by MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Makoma Makhurupetje with representatives from the Jane Furse and Masemola Taxi Associations
LIMPOPO – MEC Makhurupetje as well as the taxi associations, held the meeting following a dispute which led to a near violent situation at Apel Cross on 17 May 2018.

According to spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, the meeting was attended by the Mayor of Makhuduthamaga Municipality, the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba, representatives of SANCO and senior officials of the department.
“It was a candid but fruitful meeting and we hope the two parties will cooperate with the decisions made in the meeting moving forward.” MEC Makhurupetje said.
Having listened to all parties’ presentations, MEC Makhurupetje agreed with the two parties to operate their business in line with the prescripts of the law, but most importantly to adhere to the decision made by the Limpopo Provincial Regulatory Entity (PRE).
“The South African Police Services and our traffic law enforcement officers will continue to do their work without fail or favour and any taxi that is to be found doing business where it is not supposed to, will be impounded immediately,” Moremi-Taueatsoala.
MEC Makhurupetje added that her and the two associations want to assure the community of Jane Furse, Ga Masemola and surrounding villages around Apel Cross that the situation will be back to normal and in the future, disputes will be resolved on the table rather than on the street.
