Keeping ‘IT’ up to date at Energy FM

Ever wonder who makes sure everything technology-related runs smoothly at Energy FM?

POLOKWANE – This week we get to know the man behind the magic, Thabo Knox Koopa, who is in charge of information technology (IT) at the station.

• How do you balance life and the serious demand in IT? What is your advice for students in the field to keep focused, especially about their career choice? The Saint Pablo, Sebayeng/Solomondale.

“Look, IT is what you and I use every day. The only difference about being an IT technician is the long hours spent behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. IT is a passion-driven career, it’s not something you just study and get a job; you need to love what you do.”

• Besides being an IT technician, what else do you wish you were good at? Karabo Clive, Mankweng.

“I’m a cost accountant by profession. I studied in Gauteng at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) and later worked in Cape Town for three years as a cashier at Clicks. I obtained my IT qualification from AQuero Business Academy.”

• What was/is your favourite moment with Energy FM. Akani Razzmatazz Mavutani, Seshego Zone 3.

“I have been with Energy and Choice FM since day one and I’m not going anywhere. I love everything and my technical work.”

• Who is Knox Koopa? Justice Ngoepe, Moletjie Motinti.

“I’m a father of two sons and a daughter whom I love very much; we live in Flora Park. As an individual, I’m a reliable, hardworking, responsible and assertive South African with good planning skills and lots of enthusiasm, an excellent negotiator and driven under pressure. I am a risk taker who is very results-oriented and extremely passionate about succeeding at anything I do.”

• Do you think it is proper for people to use funerals to signal their political goals? Anonymous.

“It is fine with me, as long as it benefits South Africans.”

• Will you wear a goldish ring on your finger as a sign of love? Justice Ngoepe, Moletjie Motinti.

“Besides my family at home, Energy FM and Choice FM are my family. Yes, I do have a ‘goldish’ ring on my finger as a sign of showing ‘love’, and that’s where we are all going.”

How long have you been doing IT and what do you do when you are not at work? Nkele, Zone 5 Seshego.

“I play lots of video games and I also watch cartoons with my children. I sometimes watch science fiction movies as well.”
